SHIPS
The Reckoning - First ship, stranded in the arctic.
The Resolution - Second ship, rescue mission after Stevens' crew are lost.
The Arctic Fox - Stevens' ship, thought lost now that it's been gone three years and only supplied for two.
The Louisa - Whaling ship that rescued the survivors of the Reckoning 10ish years ago. Recommissioned as a depot ship to follow the Resolution on the rescue voyage.
CHARACTERS
William Day - POV character. 4th lieutenant on the Reckoning, made captain after the death of Talbert because no other Officer was well enough to take the post, saddled with most of the blame for things gone wrong on the Reckoning and has a ruined reputation by the time the 'present day' starts. None the less asks to go on the team to save Stevens and captains the Resolution.
Jesse Stevens - 2nd in command for Day on the Reckoning, seen as a hero for flagging down the Louisa and going back for survivors, later captains the Arctic Fox and goes missing. Shady motherfucker.
Tomas "Tom" Shepard - Reckoning - Killed - framed for desertion by Stevens, executed, used for food.
Captain Nicholas Talbert - Reckoning - Succumbed to scurvy, likely murdered by Stevens, put Day in charge
Campbell - Reckoning - Suffered from Scurvy
Dr Nai - Reckoning - Lost half his face to polar bear.
Captain William Hopkins - Part of the Admiralty, funding the rescue mission after Stevens.
Olivia Stevens - Spiritual Medium and Stevens' wife.
Qila - Inughuit girl, abandoned as a child. Companion to Mrs Stevens for the voyage, just wants a chance to go back to where her people were from.
Peters - Resolution - first lieutenant for Day
Dr Henry de Vow - Resolution - Originally supposed to be on the Reckoning, struck with influenza so was left behind.
Joseph Adams Lee - Resolution - Asshole. Noble born, placed there by Hopkins.
Roderick - Resolution - Ice Master. Former captain of a whaling ship who wanted to get out of the business badly. Two different colored eyes.
James Avery - Resolution - Reporter. Day cites him as a source for his ruined reputation after homecoming due to the slander in the media over what was done. Allowed to come along on the rescue mission as a demand by the Americans.
Captain Nathaniel - Louisa - Black captain, has been running that ship since she was a whaling vessel.
